6 Ways to Fashionably Prepare For the Convention So You Have More Time to Sleep the Day Of

Attending church isn’t about who is wearing the best suit or who is wearing the same dress as another person. But you do want to look put together and neat because you’re coming together to commemorate the goodness of God. Why mess that up?

Here are some ways to get organized so you can get beauty sleep during that weekend.

  1. Think Simple- If you think about what you’re wearing too much, you lose focus of why you’re going to church in the first place. Think too little about it, and you may end up looking like you need an intervention. “Be observant. Watch others. If you don’t understand how to contrast colors, match this pattern with that pattern, match this fabric with that fabric, don’t touch it unless you understand it. There are some people who don’t care. They’ll throw on a wool suit in the summertime. They’ll throw on some wool socks, blazing hot on a July evening. Start out with the basics. For a woman or a lady, a nice leather blue pair of shoes, with a solid blue dress, a blue blouse, and a blue hat. When it comes to different colors, you can do blue, you top can be taupe and your shoes can be any color within that realm as long as you stay in the confines of being modest,” says Cameron Jennings, organ player.

2. Make Sure it’s Modest- ”You don’t have to wear something that is tight, that clings a lot. A lot of times people think that what attracts other people is when they can see their curves.” says Taeshja Fordham, usher.

“Tuesdays and Thursdays, it doesn’t matter if you’re casual or dressed up, but at the same time, you want to look presentable. If you’re coming straight from work, that’s understandable, but if your shirt tail is out, tuck it in. During convention time, everyone must be suited up,” adds Jennings.

3. Test Drive- I usually test an outfit on a regular day before wearing it at the convention. It allows me to get acquainted with my new clothes. I can see what mistakes I made putting the outfit together and can swap out different pieces of clothing to make the outfit look better.

4. Wear Clothes That Give You Mileage- When you buy a jacket or a skirt, you want to make sure that you can wear it five different ways. This especially comes in handy when you have to pack lightly for a trip.

5. Pack Early! I dread packing, but if I have the “work first, play later,” attitude, I can plan my outfits months in advance and then pack them as we get closer to the convention.

6. Have Happy Thoughts! “I do get excited to dressed up. For the most part, I work throughout the week, so when convention time comes,[I] forget about work, forget about going out with friends and stuff. It’s just solely me getting ready for the convention. It’s an exciting time because you’re seeing people that you haven’t seen in a long time,” says Fordham.
