How I Wear White In the Summer

I think I broke a personal record of wearing white, especially on the bottom this year! Back then, I wore all white as a youth usher in the summer months, which was rough.

Why, you ask? Think about it.

Imagine you're at an event and you sit down. You get up and walk away confidently and someone tells you that there's something on your skirt. It's amazing how some people don't care about sitting anywhere as long as it's a seat. Sometimes the spots on the seats are old and sometimes they aren't. Of course, you didn't use the bathroom on yourself. But, that's what it may look like to others.

It also felt weird wearing all white as a kid because I didn’t have the best sense of style when I wore it.

Since wearing long skirts is a must in Holiness, wearing white can be difficult because the bottom can get dirty if it drags the ground. I've found wearing heels helps a bit, like I did in the above photo when I went to Pittsburgh!

The way I've been wearing it lately seems much more manageable. I was inspired when I saw a few sisters wearing white skirts at a summer event and had to try it for myself!

I've also learned not to wear a white skirt if traveling on a train or bus. I wait until I reach my destination and change into my beautiful white skirt! Let's get dressed.

LOOK: Relaxed Chic

In the first outfit, I rolled the sleeves up, tied my scarf in a bantu knot bun, let some curly hair out in the front, put on a white skirt, put a matching belt on, and finished the look with my favorite cognac heels.

The skirt for both of these outfits can be found at the same links under my second outfit in this post.

For the second look, I wrapped a floral scarf that has all three colors in it in a bun with one piece hanging down for movement. This is part of my signature look: Tying colors together in one garment. It's like my proof that the colors match.

Look: Let's Get Fancy

The next way I wear white is as a dress under a blazer! The dress was sleeveless, so I didn't have to worry about feeling too hot in the blazer. I paired this outfit with my snakeskin print heels and tied my scarf in a bantu knot bun. This is perfect for Sunday service, a networking event, or an event where you're speaking at, Sis!

While head-to-toe white can be a beautiful look, you can also mix white with other colors to create contrast. Different materials such as linen and silk can feel cooler in the summer months so you can stay cool without sacrificing style. Try one of these breezy looks for service or to a luncheon!
