14 Ways I learned to Love
I have been on cloud nine lately because I’ve found better ways to take care of myself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It has felt like a rollercoaster. I’m not happy all the time, but these tips have worked for me multiple times and I thought I’d pass them along. I’m celebrating the love of my life. Me.
Learn God. When you learn him, you learn things about yourself you never saw on your own. His word keeps me in line and encourages me to be a better person. It's takes a preacher to teach you, but also read the scriptures on your own.
Talk to God. Trust me it's therapeutic. Believe in him and what he will do for you when you talk to him. It’s a good idea to thank him for everything he has already done in your life. He's listening.
Treat Yourself. Go ahead. You deserve that slice of cake, those new shoes. I try to reward myself with something small, even if it isn't materialistic for getting through the day or the week.
Set Goals- I like to see where I’m going. My plans don’t always work out the way I want them to, but it’s comforting for me to see a faint blueprint of how I want to accomplish things.
Try New Things. Change is lit. Try a new dish. Take a different route to work, or go ziplining. Be adventurous.
Rest Your Mind Stop overthinking. Just because some things seem a certain way, doesn't mean they are. Whenever in doubt, ask questions.
Be the Good Kind of Selfish. Take care of others, but don't neglect yourself. Don't neglect your health, wellbeing, and endeavors.
Have Thick Skin. The world is a terrible place. Speak up. Don't suffer in silence when you are being threatened or being treated unfairly. On the flip side, sometimes silence shows your maturity. It depends on the situation.
Meet New People. Is there someone at your job who you never talk to? Or someone in your class who you cross paths with but don’t speak to? Walk up to them and talk to them. You’d be surprised how much you two have in common.
Sleep Sleep Sleeppp. Did I mention Sleeping? Ideas are fresher after you take a nap.
Know When to Let Something Go. Holding onto unhealthy feelings or pushing an issue that you know won’t get you anywhere is stifling, bondage, and stupid. LET IT GO. Flood your mind with new projects or happy thoughts. Focus on your life.
Have a Positive Attitude. If you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, try to think of a time when you were happy. Or think about what you want to accomplish that day and go for it!
Be Present. Too much social media can start to take a toll on you. If I’m on facebook or Insta for too long, I get bored and sometimes experience a bad case of FOMO if I can’t hang out with my friends that day. So when you’re with your friends, let them be the media. Put your phones down, unless you’re taking killer selfies. Be in the moment with them.
Be Artsy- Got a passion for self-expression? Practice modeling. Haven’t used a camera before? Get one and practice angles and different lighting settings. Sing. Write a few poems. This is a good way to express yourself because it’s like writing your thoughts and feelings down, but in a beautiful way. They can be straightforward or mysterious. People don’t have to go to college for journalism to be a journalist. All of us document some form of our lives everyday, whether it is a Facebook post or a Snap. You don’t have to take a class for creativity. You already have that stuff within you. Just find your passion and share it with the world. You won’t be only showing yourself love. You’ll be spreading that love to others.
