My Thoughts on Cancer

Disclaimer: I don't profess to be an expert on this, I'm just sharing my story and things I have read up on about being healthy...

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer is a vicious disease that spreads throughout the body, weakens it, and kills it.

My mom was such a strong woman in the midst of being afflicted by this disease. I don’t speak about it much, but it’s important to be aware and take action to prevent it. I wear pink for her. Tell a woman in your life to get tested.

After my mom’s death, I started to take my health more seriously. I started reading this book called The End of All Disease by Jesse Cannone. It details what things in the food that we may eat may be dangerous to our bodies. I started cooking more, and I love it. I pack my smoothies with only fruit and chia seeds and I can truly see the difference. When I eat clean, I have more energy and my outlook on things is better. Knowing where your food comes from is definitely an important step to eating healthy. I constantly look up food and its nutrition. I try to avoid foods that are processed. Even though I occasionally indulge in unhealthy foods, I’m aware of it and know that I have to keep trying to give it up and pick something healthy instead.

It’s sad that in many places, the healthy, organic food is more expensive than the greasy and sugary foods. While I hate spending extra money, I think it's worth the price in order to keep my body on track. After learning about what foods to eat, I was told fruits and veggies simply aren't enough. Nutrients have to be placed back in the body. So I started taking Iodine, Vitamins C and D, and Tumeric.

I was surprised when I found out that hazardous chemicals are even in everyday items such as shampoo and clothing. Educating yourself about health and knowing what's in the products you use can prevent all kinds of cancers and diseases.

Also, I've been told by doctors that if a person waits too long or if a person has a higher stage of the cancer, it's harder to get rid of it. That was a terrifying realization for me. I pray I never get it, but I realize how important the prevention is.

I saw the affects of the cancer on my mom. She would get tired and wouldn't be able to sleep some nights. I knew she was depressed and I didn't know how to help her, how to stop the pain. I knew she appreciated me, but I wish there was more I could have done for her. I know she would want me to live a healthy life and please God, so that's what I'm striving to do. Maybe that's the way I give back to the woman that birthed me.

Here are some resources that I have looked up recently for more information about the disease and being healthy in general.
